Many people will be aware of the changes done some months ago to Ross Street Community Centre so that the entrance is now from the north courtyard and not up the steps from the street.
It has now been suggested that the section of the highway adjacent to the old entrance would be a good place for additional on-street cycle parking. This would involve removing the railings.
The County Council are consulting residents about three options
Option A – open cycle parking similar to that in Thoday Street
Option B – part secure covered parking in which people would rent space
Option C – do nothing
This seems to us to be a very good idea as
> more designated cycle parking is always welcome
> it has never been available for car parking so isn’t a reduction
> the pavement is narrow so car-parking would be problematic
> it is not outside anyone’s house, so the risk of disturbance is less.
However, renting out part of the highway, caused us a bit of hesitation – but we will see if the consultation shows support for the idea.
