City Councillor Catherine Smart

Biography: Catherine was a teacher for many years, including 23 years on the Long Road Sixth Form College site. She also worked as a Field Officer for the teachers union ATL. Catherine has been on the City Council for 10 years, Executive Councillor for Housing since 2003 & Deputy Leader for two years.

City Councillor Paul Saunders

Biography: City Councillor for Romsey Ward since May 2010. Currently: Vice-chair of both the Environment Scrutiny and Development Plan Scrutiny Sub-Committees; Member of Planning and Licensing Committees; also Chair of the City Rangers Steering Group.

Previously worked for Eastern Electricity; Norwich Union; and Anglian Water in various IT roles. Recently Sales Consultant for Cambridge Wine Merchants. Joined the Liberal Party in Ipswich in the 70s : member of the constituency party executive and briefly treasurer; Council candidate in St John’s Ward (Ipswich). An active trade unionist in the 70s and was a member of NALGO branch executive. Elected to the City Council in 2010. Memberships include the British Computer Society; Cambridge PPF; Cambridge Cycling Campaign; Cuba Solidarity Campaign; Romsey Garden Club; Transition Cambridge; Friends of Mill Road Cemetery; and the Cleaner Cambridge Campaign. Other interests include wine, walking and cycling.

County Councillor Kilian Bourke

Biography: Kilian was elected Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Romsey in 2008, and re-elected in 2009. On the County Council, he is Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group.

He was born in 1981 in Dublin and grew up in County Down, Northern Ireland. He did a degree in English at Robinson College, finishing in 2005, and a Masters in Screen Media and Cultures in 2008.

He worked in 2003 as an analyst for France Telecom on the logistics branch of the Top Sourcing program. In 2004 he worked for the International Herald Tribune in Paris, as a web-producer of the online edition of the newspaper.

For a couple of years after graduating he was an electric-bike traffic reporter for Star Radio, known as “Coleman the Patrolman.”  He also ran the ground operation of Greenwheels Pedicab Tours for a few years, a local rickshaw company that offers guided tours and short trips around the city centre.

Kilian currently works as a caseworker for Andrew Duff MEP.
