Christmas rubbish collection for Romsey

by Paul Saunders on 22 December, 2015

bins docMost of Romsey has rubbish collected on a Monday so few changes are needed to accommodate the Bank Holidays this year.
The collection on December 21st will be as usual but the week after Christmas will be a day later – on Tuesday 29th December.
The following week will be on the Monday as usual.

Reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill in important – partly as it cost money the City Council can use on other things and partly because the methane produced does no good to our planet. Someone has calculated that the amount of wrapping paper thrown away in Cambridge and South Cambs would stretch from here to Calais – and it can all be put in the blue bin (perhaps someone should get a life – particularly at Christmas).

Food waste (preferably wrapped in newspaper) can go in the green bin but a visit to www.lovefoodhatewaste.com might cut the amount down.  More is usually wasted at this time of year than at any other time.

If you have a real Christmas tree you have a real choice about disposing of it:-

  1. Cut it up so you can get it into the green bin but still close the lid
  2. Take it to Cherry Hinton Hall car park (Boxing Day till 20th January)
  3. Use the service provided by the Arthur Rank Hospice and Just Helping.   Book on the Arthur Rank Hospice’s website at www.arhc.org.uk/treerecycling.asp and, for a donation of £5 or more, the tree will be collected on 8, 9 and 10 January.
