This message sent by John Ackerley (Police, PCSO, Cambridge City – South & East)

Firstly Happy New Year from the City East Problem solving Team. I trust you all had a Happy Christmas and are settling in to 2016.
Across Romsey in December we had 32 reported Crimes, this is down fro the 52 reported over the same period last year!

Looking into what they were, we had 4 Burglaries reported. A shed was broken into and items taken on Mill Road. A business along Mill Road was also the victim of a burglary. A property being renovated on Vinery road had the cooper piping stolen and a Burglar was disturbed climbing in via a open window on Wetenhall Road.
We had 3 crimes raised for Drug related offences. 2 were for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and 1 for possession of cannabis.
2 Crimes have been reported for vehicles being damaged. on Seymour Street and Hampten Gardens respectively. 3 crimes for Theft from vehicles on Cromwell road, Wycliffe Road and Brooks Road. Also a trailer has been stolen from the rear access that runs between Cromwell road and Brampton Road.
2 Crimes for Assaults (Affray’s), 1 for shoplifting and in total 9 bikes have been reported stolen. 6 had cable locks broken to steal the bike and 2 were left insecure in insecure rear gardens.

It is good to see such a large reduction in crimes across Romsey, however we can all do are bit to prevent crime by taking necessary steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Simple things such as securing your bike with a good quality lock when leaving it unattended. Even when in your garden! If you are going to get a new cycle lock spend the extra and look into a Sold secure ‘rated’ lock, D-locks or ‘moped’ chain locks are best. This will be a bigger investment but can prevent a thief considering stealing your bike and work out to be a saving in the long run.
Ensuring your property is secure when going to bed or going out in the hours of darkness and lastly by removing valuables from display when leaving your vehicle.

I know none of us are perfect! But with it being a New Year with a fresh start there is no better time to try and put in place new habits of routine that can help prevent Crime, prevent the stress/anxiety of being a victim and also save you money due to not having to claim/purchase a replacement.

With that said, and as i said at the start of the E-Cops message, Happy New Year
Kind regards
PCSO John Ackerley
