A message from Catherine Smart:

So Labour’s Sophie Barnett was elected as one of your ward councillors.  I wish her well and trust she will enjoy serving the people of Romsey as much as I have.

It has been a privilege to be a City Councillor for Romsey for 18 years and I thank the people of Romsey for giving me that opportunity.

There have been many triumphs over the years – big and small,  but I think the most significant are securing the money to build the Coldhams Lane cycle and pedestrian bridge so saving people having to use that dangerous road bridge, rebuilding the flats for older people that is now Jane’s Court and keeping them as part of City Homes, appointing the first Co-ordinator for Mill Road and refurbishing Romsey Rec.

I have just walked round the Rec and it looked beautiful in the sun-shine and, more importantly, was full of people using it: young folk kicking a ball around, kids playing on the equipment in the old bowling green, a rather small boy carefully venturing up the climbing rocks, and adults sitting on the grass or standing and talking: all enjoying the sunshine and the lovely space that is Romsey Rec.

I will of course, still be living in Romsey – and walking round the Rec – so this is not “good-bye” – just thank you.
