Two class A drug dealers caught in the last two days!

by Paul Saunders on 25 August, 2011

Here’s a message from the East Neighbourhood Policing Team’s “E-Cops” email newsletter, including some very good news about a drug dealer taken off Romsey’s Streets!

“I write with relation to some recent good pro active results that your officers have achieved. Last week we received reports of heroin and crack cocaine being supplied in the Skate Park off Coldhams Lane. On Tuesday officers in plain clothes attended the area and spotted a lonesome figure in the park, they monitored him for a period of time before witnessing him handing something to a drug user. Constable Andrew Badcock stopped the drug user and after a struggle recovered heroin from inside his mouth. The dealer attempted to make good his escape but was quickly pursued across the common by the sector sergeant Jamie Stenton and was arrested for supplying class A drugs. CID are now investigating this offence and remain hopeful of securing a conviction.
Worryingly when officers conducted some reassurance patrols in the area residents reported to us that they had been concerned about drug dealing in the park for a while, however they had not reported this to the police. I encourage you to immediately report such concerns if you ever become aware of them, you are always assured of confidentiality if you report such behaviour but these reports can be done via crimestoppers if you wish to remain anonymous.
On Wednesday the PCSO for Petersfield Hoi Yee Ng was on patrol to deal with anti social behaviour in the Norfolk Street area when she became aware of a male she suspected may be drug dealing. Constables Alan Tregilgas and Martyn Pinyoun deployed to the area on foot in plain clothes, sector sergeant Jamie Stenton deployed to the area on a pedal cycle in plain clothes and found the male in York Street Park. When sergeant Stenton challenged the male he quickly ran off but was soon chased down and detained for a search, he was arrested for being in possession of a knife and a search at an address nearby revealed a quantity of class A drugs and cash. He has been charged and remanded for court with a recommendation of bail conditions being imposed banning him from the city.
So this week has shaped up to be a very good week for your east neighbourhood team and a very bad week for drug dealers and the crime that stems from their trade.
We will endeavour to keep you updated and will always work fearlessly to rid your streets of this type of menace.”

Romsey Councillor Paul Saunders commented “This is great news and reminds us what a good job our local police team do. They deserve our thanks”.
