Heroin dealer sentenced to 3.5 years

by Paul Saunders on 27 January, 2012

The message was sent out by your neighbourhood police team today to the “e-cops” email list.

Great news from Cambridge Crown Court today.
You may recall back in early October time I published an E-Cops article regarding a three day undercover operation we launched to tackle a group of London based crack and heroin dealers who were heavily operating in the east of the city. The operation was a huge success with 8 suspected dealers arrested, some were charged with weapons offences and others were detained for court on warrants that were outstanding. They all had to be bailed for the drugs offences, this is because in a court of law the police have an evidential burden to prove ‘beyond ALL reasonable doubt’ the offence in question, and we must also investigate impartially, i.e. gather evidence that either proves or disproves someone’s involvement in an offence.
This meant we had to conduct numerous forensic examinations, phone examinations, get many statements etc… amongst other things.
We have today had our first sentence passed as a result of all this hard work and effort. Abdul Ali of Darwin Drive, Cambridge was today sentenced to three and a half years for two counts of possessing with the intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine. Keep an eye on the local media for their report.
We are extremely optimistic that other similar results will follow but still have some work to do on other cases. Rest assured, we’ll do our very best to bring those supplying drugs in Cambridge to swift justice.
