Primary school application process opens this week

by Paul Saunders on 26 November, 2013

A message from Romsey’s County Councillor Kilian Bourke:

Applications must be submitted for any child born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010, who wishes to start primary school in September 2014.
The completed form must be received by the County Council’s admissions team by midnight 15 January, 2014.

The process can be completed online here:

Or parents can collect a paper form from Romsey Mill, Patacake, St Philips, or any other children’s centre, early years provider, or primary school.

I met with Siobhan Rouse, the principal of St. Philips, recently, and Siobhan’s view was that the main things for parents to do were:
– talk to the schools they are thinking of applying to;
– make sure they get their applications in on time;
– make sure to include their local school on their list.

I would particularly stress Siobhan’s point that Romsey parents should make sure to include St Philips on their list.

It is a very good school in my experience, and the OFSTED system is blinded by the metrics that it uses to the fact that in a number of key respects St Philips outperforms many more highly scoring schools.

Yours sincerely,
Kilian Bourke, Lib Dem County Councillor for Romsey
