Elections will take place on Thursday 22 May, for 14 of the 42 councillors on Cambridge City Council, and for the European Parliament.
If you wish to vote at these elections, you must be registered to vote by Tuesday 6 May. You are not automatically registered, even if you pay council tax.
Antoinette Jackson, returning officer for the city council elections and Cambridge City Council’s chief executive, said: “Voting at the local elections means you will help decide which local councillors will represent your interests in your area. Local councillors make decisions about council services on your behalf, and decide how the money you pay as council tax gets spent.
Even if you’re not sure you want to vote in the city council or European elections, I would encourage you to register before 6 May, so you have the option to vote on 22 May – there may be an issue you feel strongly about nearer the time.”
If you are already registered to vote but are planning to be away from Cambridge on 22 May, you can apply to vote by post up until 5pm on Wednesday 7 May.
If you would like to appoint someone else to vote on your behalf you can apply to vote by proxy up until 5pm on Wednesday 14 May.
If you have moved recently or know that you are not registered to vote you can download a voter registration form from www.cambridge.gov.uk/register-to-vote or request one by phoning 01223 457048.
