News from the City Council:

“Teams from Streets and Open spaces have been deployed to grit City Centre footpaths, underpasses, sheltered accommodation, Parks & Open spaces, out City shopping areas, and Crematorium and Cemeteries.

The latest information from the County is for further snow showers during the day followed by freezing temperatures.”

Background information:

The main gritting is done by the County Council on the roads and footpaths, they concentrate on bus routes and main roads.
The City Council:

• helps the County (at their request) with gritting city centre footpaths and the underpasses also the cycle routes, cycle and pedestrian bridges and the cycle route alongside the Guided Bus.
• grits paths on City Council land including sheltered housing areas, car parks, the Cemetery and Crematorium, paths across the parks and the local shopping centres.
• provides residents & community groups with bags of grit to use on the public highway and footpaths in their area.  There has to be a named person taking responsibility and being the contact.   Contact 01223 458295 to make arrangements.
