Local people can breathe a sigh of relief as it has been confirmed that the 114 bus has been saved following a campaign by the Romsey Lib Dems.
The County Council has announced that the service will be continued for the next year, although final details are yet to be published. Romsey Lib Dems had pushed for the service to be extended into peak hours on a trial basis, but budgets did not allow for this.
Nichola Martin, who will be fighting next month’s Romsey by-election for the Lib Dems said: “It’s great news that this crucial service has survived this round of cuts. Everyone who took part in the campaign can take credit for showing just how vital the service is. However, its long-term future is still uncertain, especially with the cuts the Tories want to make. If elected, I will not support any budget plan that puts the future of the 114 bus at risk – that’s a promise.”
