The Royal Standard – licencing variation

by Paul Saunders on 13 November, 2015

The Royal Standard have applied to drop some of the conditions under which they opened.

They are:

  1. All alcohol shall be decanted from any bottles into drinking vessels by staff prior to being served to customers
  1. Plastic or polycarbonate glassware shall be used for the external drinking areas including those customers using the smoking area
  1. Customers wishing to smoke shall be directed to use the rear external smoking area and staff shall ensure any customer smoking or attempting to smoke on the pavement on Mill Road will be directed to the covered smoking area.

If anyone wants to make any representations (supporting or objecting) to the Licensing Authority (the City Council) they must be in by 7th December.

The reasons given by the Royal Standard are:

Part 4 removal.
Tenant running the public house also runs a number of other public houses, i.e. Cambridge Blue and will serve bottles of wine along with large bottles of Belgium Beer that do not fit a pint glass. No Problems have been reported at his other establishments and the same clientele are expected.

Part 6 removal.
Again there have been no problems in his other public houses which do not have this condition. The rear garden at the royal standard is enclosed with wall and railings. Staff are trained to be observant and clear tables quickly and regularly.

Part 16 removal.
This will be a non-smoking public house including the external space to keep the area looking clean and preserve the look. It will be difficult to differentiate between customers and bus passengers at the front as the bus shelter has an ashtray that is located within the bus shelter and this is in close proximity to the royal standard entrance door.
