The City Deal Assembly will discuss the Chisholm Trail on Friday 12th February. For the report see here.
The consultation which ran for six weeks last Autumn brought in over 1,400 responses, 85% in favour of the route chosen. Details here.
Most concern was expressed at the urbanisation of the route across the open areas especially Ditton Fields and Coldhams Common. Therefore it is proposed that these parts of the route should be more in the style of “greenways”.
It is proposed that the greenway parts of the Chisholm Trail will be a shared path, 3,5 metres wide and with studs to light the way.
The more urban areas will be up to 5 metres wide, segregated between cyclists and pedestrians when possible and lit by columns with LED lantern-heads.
After discussion by the Assembly, the City Deal Board will take a decision on 3rd March. If they approve, a planning application will be prepared and will be put in later this year.
There are still negotiations going on with land-owners, particularly Network Rail, and the bridge over the Cam has yet to be built, so it will be some time before the whole Trail will be open – but progress is definitely being made.
