Serious repairs are going to be done to the road surface of two of Romsey’s side streets in March.
After years of just plonking another layer on top, this time it will be a proper job. It is described as a “plane out and inlay” so we assume they will bottom it and put a new surface on the road.
Former County Councillor Kilian Bourke had been campaigning for years for the Romsey side-streets to be properly fixed and, at long last, the highways technical officers have acknowledged that further patching is not a good idea and a proper job is needed.
The streets they are going to do are Stockwell Street, off Mill Road and part of Vinery Road, from the junction with Seymour Street to the barriers by the school. The officers believe these are the worse – and can be done within the available budget.
Councillor Catherine Smart commented, “An improved surface should last better than the patching that has been going on. I am also expecting that this will improve the drainage. I could wish that every one of the side-streets was on the list but two are better than none. I will continue to press for them all to be done – over a couple of years if necessary.”
