It has been agreed that the double yellow lines at the junction of Wycliffe Road and Brooks Road will be lengthened. This will make the junction safer as there will be less danger of a car turning in meeting a car going out along-side the parked cars.
Last Autumn, Councillor Catherine Smart was asked by a Wycliffe Road resident if this could be done. She then sent round a note to residents in the road asking them about it. No-one objected and several people contacted her to describe near-misses.
Shortly afterwards the annual opportunity to ask for “local highway improvements” opened and she immediately proposed it and spoke in favour of it at two committee meetings.
Catherine commented, “there is limited money for these improvements and it is a bit competitive. Committee members give points, with the top scoring schemes being done and lower ranking ones not. I was pleased to see that I had persuaded councillors to give lots of points to this scheme so it came at the very top of the list!”
Money will therefore be allocated to get it done but before paint can actually be applied, a “Traffic Regulation Order” will have to be approved. This will be published later this year.
