Good news about highway maintenance jobs

by Paul Saunders on 18 April, 2016

Councillor Catherine Smart reports, “I have had good news about some maintenance jobs which I have been asking for, for a while. ”

Carter bridge

The lights on the Carter Bridge across the railway from Rustat Road to Devonshire Road are in urgent need of attention.  They are very dirty and about a quarter are out.

Catherine says, “Some weeks ago, I reported these and asked that something could be done and have now had a very positive response.

The County officer tells me that they are planning a package of works to include replacing the out tubes for the lights, steam cleaning and wiping the internal surfaces, jetting the drains and repairing the cctv camera to the steps.”

It is hoped that this will happen before the end of April.

Road markings on the Romsey side roads

These also are going to be done – and it will be quite an operation.

The County local highway officer says “the refreshing of road markings in Romsey is an objective for me in this financial year.

We are discussing the closures of roads to allow us to do this, parking will otherwise prevent us doing it.   The plan is to close two roads a day in the area and recover the road markings, fill potholes, cleanse gullies and ask the City council to do a deep cleanse while the opportunity is there “

He goes on to say that he will let all the councillors know and will request the co-operation of everyone as he knows it will cause considerable disruption.

They will aim is to do it in the summer as they need good dry weather for road markings.

Catherine comments, “This is something else I have been asking for.  Some of the lines have almost disappeared – but it is going to be quite a difficult period and will depend on everyone co-operating!   But it will be good it’s done – much safer.”
