Romsey Terrace Planning Application – Update

by Paul Saunders on 20 June, 2016

An update from Jean Glasberg of the Romsey Terrace Residents’ Group:

Romsey residents 2-year battle to stop Robinson College building in the garden of houses they own here now looks set to be resolved by a Planning Inspector at an Oral Hearing.

Knowing they were not likely to get approval for their plans from the City Council, the College had appealed, and asked that the case should be decided by written submissions only.

Residents asked that this should be changed to an informal hearing here in Cambridge, and were backed by local councillors and planners.

The Inspector has now agreed to this, and the Hearing will be held on 23rd August at 10am in Committee Room 1 at the Guildhall.

Roy Stamp, Chair of  Romsey Terrace Residents’ Group, commented, “We are pleased that the Inspector has recognised the strength of local feeling on this issue. With over 50 objections, it is right that he should come to see the site for himself and hear firsthand why local people consider this to be greedy over-development that will have a very negative impact on our neighbourhood. Cambridge needs homes, but this scheme crams houses into a small garden area in a way that would lead to poor living conditions for both present and future residents. PLEASE COME ALONG TO SUPPORT US ON THE 23rdr – we need quality development, not a ‘dash for cash’ that will create the slums of tomorrow’.
